Rosh Hashanah

 Today is the first day of Rosh Hashanah, the Feast of Trumpets.

All of the days God appointed for feasts are on the full moon - except this one. This feast falls on the New Moon. It has to be scheduled over the course of two days because "No one knows the day or the hour" when the first appearance of the moon will happen. 

Witnesses are sent to various places. They are to observe the sky very closely to watch for the "horns of the moon" to appear. As soon as they see it, they were to run to the Temple and let the priests know. When two of the witnesses arrive, the priests blow the trumpet and the feast begins.

So sometime today or tomorrow, witnesses will see the horns of the moon and blow the trumpet.

The feasts of Israel were never called holidays. God said, "These are My moedim - appointments, appointed times."

When Jesus came in the flesh, He fulfilled the spring feasts, not just to the day, He fulfilled them to the very hour.

The people were to bring a lamb into their home and inspect it for perfection for four days before Passover. Jesus came into Jerusalem through the sheep gate at the same time as the Passover lambs. He spent four days in the Temple preaching and being questioned by the priests for four days before His arrest.

He was crucified and died at the hour when the Passover lambs were being slaughtered in preparation of the Passover meal.

Jesus rose on First Fruits as the first fruit from the dead.

Fifty days later, on Pentecost, Shavuot, the Holy Spirit arrived in the upper room and the Age of Grace, or the Church Age, began.

After Pentecost, there are no holidays in the summer. That is the time for harvest. In John 4:35, Jesus says, "Do you not have a saying, ‘Four months more, and then comes the harvest’? “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields; already they are white for the harvest."

After the harvest come the fall feasts, Rosh Hashanah being the first of them. According to a Christian Jewish teacher, this is Jesus' second coming, when He touches His foot to the earth.

The next holiday is a fast, Yom Kippur. This is the time of serious reflection and repentance. 

Zechariah 12:10 says it like this: And I will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him as one who is in bitterness for his firstborn.

If you aren't sure that this refers to Jesus, ask yourself, "When did they pierce God?"

Lastly comes the Feast of Tabernacles. I believe this points to the Millenium when Jesus physically rules the world from His throne in Jerusalem.

This leaves the rapture of the believers for any time at all. Today, tomorrow, next week...whenever.

At the very least, these are things to think about very carefully. 

If Jesus came for His own today, would you be ready? Would you go with Him? Are you sure?

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved." It's very simple. It's a free gift and everything depends on your answer.

Syria Under Fire

I find the news headlines absolutely fascinating lately as I have studied Bible prophecy for many years.

In light of Obama saying he wants to take military action against Syria, check this one out:

A prophecy against Damascus: "See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins." Isaiah 17:1

Syria says if we attack them, they will retaliate and the first to be hit would be Israel. These people do not threaten without a complete intent to follow up on their word.
Assuming they do hit Israel, God has something in mind for them and all who ally themselves together against Israel:

1A day of the Lord is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions will be plundered and divided up within your very walls.

2I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. 3Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. 4On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake^a in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.  Zechariah 14

 

The scene of war is described even more graphically in Ezekiel 38.

 

I have to wonder how soon Jesus will come back for those who love Him. It has to be during a time of peace, because Jesus said:

 

26“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. Luke 17

 

People are eating and drinking and carrying on with life as if everything were normal.

 

The Feast of Trumpets - the only unfulfilled Jewish holiday - is on September 5 this year. Congress is reconvening on September 9th to consider taking action against Syria. Obama says he may act with or without Congressional approval.

 

All the pieces are in place. I have to wonder whether the table is being set even now for the wedding supper of the Lamb.

Feast of Trumpets 2013

As I've mentioned before, I always pay a little more attention as the Feast of Trumpets approaches.

 "For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first." 1 Thessalonians 4:16

This year, the feast is on September 5th.

Feast of Trumpets 2012

We're nearly at the Feast of Trumpets for this year. September 17-26 - the Days of Awe.

The Jewish people clean their slates at this time by forgiving people who have hurt them and asking forgiveness from people they have hurt.  They go to God and ask Him to make them clean.

They wish each other, "May a good year be written for you in the Book of Life."

Those are good traditions.  And so I wish for anyone who reads this, "May a good year be inscribed for you in the Book of Life."

With all the hype about the world coming to an end - or the world/humanity changing in some quantum way - I have a thought or two on the subject.

Please remember that the Mayans worshipped a snake, Quetzalcoatl or Kukulkan.  While I respect their expertise in astronomy and time-keeping, (and make no mistake, they were masters at both), I distrust their source of information for any prophecies they left for us to find.

Nostradamus came up with his predictions by scrying, that is, staring into a bowl of water or crystal ball.  God says we should not tolerate anyone who uses divination or witchcraft, one who interprets omens, a sorcerer, one who casts spells, a medium, a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead.  Deut. 18:10-12

Nostradamus's poems are approximately as general as an astrological forecast which can be read by individuals to mean whatever they think it ought to mean.  A few lines seem to be close to something that actually happened.  God says, "When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken.  The prophet has spoken presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." Deut. 18:22

As for December 21, 2012, here's what the Bible says: Be on the alert for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.  For this reason you must also be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will." Matt. 24:42, 44  (Bold letters are mine.)  Since so many people think something big, possibly Jesus' return will be on that day, you can be pretty sure He will not choose that particular day.

My preference is during the Feast of Trumpets.  Odds are that He won't pick those days either.  Sigh
